Our Co-founder Gets the Gold!

Dr. David Pariser, Hyperhidrosis Expert and Champion, Wins American Academy of Dermatology’s Highest Honor

Dr. David M. Pariser, dermatologist, International Hyperhidrosis Society co-founder, renowned hyperhidrosis expert, passionate advocate, and professor of dermatology has earned the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) most prestigious honor — its Gold Medal!

Based on highly selective criteria, the AAD (arguably the most influential dermatology group in the world) presents its Gold Medal in recognition of individuals' exceptional service to the practice of dermatology, their substantial impact on the future of cutaneous medicine, and their lifelong dedication to the specialty. In addition to his many other accomplishments, Dr. Pariser co-founded the International Hyperhidrosis Society more than 14 years ago. Want to congratulate Dr. Pariser on this distinguished honor? Send a note to: Dr. David Pariser, Pariser Dermatology, 6160 Kempsville Circle, Suite 200A, Norfolk, Virginia 23502.

In 2003, with a compassionate and respected group of fellow dermatologists and Board of Directors, Dr. Pariser recognized a need to create a place where hyperhidrosis took center stage, where patients had a voice, and where healthcare providers and patients, alike, could find the up-to-date, reliable information they need to improve excessive sweating management. Over the years, the International Hyperhidrosis Society’s role has grown to include working with industry to provide insights into new types of treatments, helping to bring these treatments to market through clinical trial recruitment, educating healthcare providers in hyperhidrosis best practices, and conducting insightful research to further our understanding of excessive sweating, its prevalence and its devastating effects. Throughout, Dr. Pariser has guided the Society with invaluable insight and patient-centered vision.

“I’d like to sincerely thank Dr. Pariser for his exceptional commitment to advancements in dermatology and hyperhidrosis, in particular,” remarks Lisa Pieretti, Executive Director of the International Hyperhidrosis Society. “His leadership of the International Hyperhidrosis Society is an ongoing inspiration. We couldn’t be more gratified to see him awarded the AAD’s highest honor. On a personal level, I greatly value his friendship and mentoring. I couldn't imagine doing this important work without him.”

Dr. Pariser has been practicing dermatology for more than 40 years and is a world-renowned expert not only in hyperhidrosis, but also in atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis, and photodynamic therapy (a treatment for early skin cancers and pre-cancers.) He is senior physician with Pariser Dermatology Specialists in Virginia.

The American Academy of Dermatology announced Dr. Pariser’s prize at its recent Annual Meeting in Florida. At the same meeting, Dr. Pariser was co-author on a research abstract showing that more teens (17%!) experience excessive sweating than was previously thought. The research was conducted by the International Hyperhidrosis Society and picked by the AAD to be presented as part of its competitive Late-Breaking Research symposium.

It’s just one example of the valuable scientific investigations Dr. Pariser engages in. Indeed, he spends much of his time in research and has been involved in the development and testing of many drugs now commonly used in dermatology. His work has led to the authorship of four textbooks and over 300 scientific publications in medical literature. Dr. Pariser is also a sought-after lecturer who has been invited to teach dermatologists at over 200 medical conventions around the world and he often teaches at International Hyperhidrosis Society medical training events.

Congratulations Dr. Pariser for this lifetime achievement award! The hyperhidrosis community would not have come so far without you and we know there’s so much more we can achieve.
