 Just in time to protect those expensive holiday gifts, we’ve discovered a way to save your phone, tablet, headset, and other electronics from sweat and liquid damage without bulky or leaky plastic cases. While we haven't yet tried this here at IHHS-central, we wanted to share this innovation with you right away.

Thanks to nanotechnology, Liquipel has developed a patented low-pressure vacuum chamber that vapor-coats handheld devices in an ultra-thin, invisible, waterproof “case.” The coating even safely penetrates all of a device’s nooks and crannies. The coating is a permanent, undetectable waterproofing layer that is “1000 times thinner than a human hair.” It does not affect functionality of touch screens, chargers, earphone jacks, or other ports, and, according to Liquipel, keeps your device functioning even underwater. Sweat, coffee, and other liquids will simply bead up and run off.

Protecting our phones and tablets from liquid accidents is a great idea and Liquipel is not alone in this arena. Companies providing pre-waterproofed phones include Kyocera (Hydro phone is waterproof for up to 30 minutes in up to 3 feet of water) and Sony (Xperia Z1S is resistant to water and dust).
